Russia Nears 140 Million Tonnes in Grain Harvest Progress

MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates its 2026 grain harvest will reach approximately 140 million tonnes as farmers approach the conclusion of the season. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev noted that farmers had already gathered more than 126 million tonnes of grain. By October 2, about 90% of the sown area had been threshed. Authorities also project the country will produce roughly 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

Russia grain harvest heads toward 140 million tonnes
Russia’s 2026 grain harvest is expected to reach about 140 million tonnes.

These latest figures show an increase from early September, when Russia had harvested 113.5 million tonnes of grain. The collection of oilseeds has now reached nearly 15 million tonnes. Farmers operating within organized sectors have also harvested close to 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a similar volume of vegetables. Officials in Russia indicated that yields across most crop categories are exceeding 2025 levels as harvest activities continue across various producing regions.

The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has issued an adjusted forecast of about 141.8 million tonnes for the 2026 grain harvest. Rosstat reported a 2025 harvest totaling 141.2 million tonnes based on its territorial data. During an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut announced a 2025 total of 144.6 million tonnes, describing it as the third-largest grain harvest in the nation’s history. In 2024, Russia produced nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.

    Harvest activities reach final phase

Patrushev highlighted that current harvesting rates align with the government’s expectations for key crops. The Russian government continues to support farmers during the autumn field period by allocating about 10 billion rubles in subsidies for transportation from major grain-producing regions. Additionally, they have suspended grain export duty payments through the end of 2026 and maintained export duties on vegetable oil and meal at August levels.

According to officials, winter sowing has surpassed the halfway mark of the planned area. They have urged regional authorities to monitor planting progress closely, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry earlier indicated that farmers intend to sow over 19 million hectares with winter crops. Ensuring farms are well-equipped with machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other necessary resources remains a priority as the season advances.

Recent harvests remain near record levels

Russia’s recent grain harvests continue to be substantial by historical standards. The country produced about 143 million tonnes of grain in 2023, following a record 157.676 million tonnes in 2022. The current forecast of around 140 million tonnes is below both of those figures but still higher than the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. The final 2026 grain total has not yet been announced, as harvesting is still ongoing in several regions.

The ongoing campaign also underscores Russia’s overall crop production scale. Alongside grain, the government expects oilseed output to reach about 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers are actively harvesting vegetables and potatoes as regional seasonal work concludes. At the same time, officials are progressing with winter planting preparations for the upcoming agricultural cycle, while farmers finish the remaining 2026 harvest. The government’s current projection remains at 140 million tonnes, pending final official confirmation.
