ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates is set to increase its investment in Greece by an additional €15 billion as part of a joint initiative between the two nations. The announcement was made on October 22 during the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Athens. This new pledge builds upon a €4 billion project launched in May 2022, aiming to strengthen economic and strategic relations.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion is designed to enhance cooperation in key sectors that are strategic and development priorities for both nations. The original initiative established a framework for joint investments in areas of mutual interest and has already resulted in significant transactions in energy and healthcare sectors. Officials highlighted that these outcomes demonstrate the partnership’s potential to convert economic opportunities into concrete investments. The additional funds complement and expand this existing framework.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions focused on ways to promote collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. They also examined regional and global developments, emphasizing the importance of security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring the ongoing growth of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion worth of agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens. At the event, UAE and Greek entities signed agreements and business partnerships exceeding €12.75 billion, spanning digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security sectors. These agreements are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi noted that the agreements and the new investment plan reflect a rising confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the current focus is on transforming this momentum into productive projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a global hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while calling Greece a strategic gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also attended the forum.
Greece regarded as a strategic entry point into European markets
The UAE stated that its decision demonstrates confidence in Greece’s economic and investment capabilities. It highlighted Greece’s strategic position as a link connecting European markets with regional and global economies. The expanded initiative aims to foster collaboration among investment institutions and corporations in both countries. It also seeks to promote innovation and facilitate knowledge and expertise exchange. Ultimately, the initiative is designed to create new investment opportunities.
This announcement aligns with the broader UAE effort to establish long-term investment partnerships across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany in various sectors. Additionally, the UAE has increased discussions with other European countries such as Italy. Officials indicated that Greece’s initiative represents a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
