STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official data revealed that Sweden’s industrial production decreased by 1.5% in June compared to the same month last year. Additionally, output dipped by 0.4% from May after seasonal adjustments, indicating a weaker month for the nation’s manufacturing sector. Statistics Sweden published these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index registered at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the baseline at 100.

Sweden industrial output falls as June orders surge
Sweden’s industrial output fell in June while industrial orders recorded strong gains.

This annual contraction followed a revised 7.6% growth in May. Manufacturing output fell 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying saw a decline of 13.8%. On a monthly basis, manufacturing dropped 0.4%, and mining and quarrying decreased 3.3%. Industry represented 20.2% of the broader private-sector measure for 2025, with manufacturing making up 19.4 percentage points of that total, positioning it as the leading industrial segment.

Despite the June dip, the second quarter still saw gains. The average industrial output from April through June exceeded the same period in 2025 by 4.0%. Seasonally adjusted industrial production also rose by 4.8% compared to the previous three months. Sweden’s overall private-sector output increased by 0.4% from May and 1.8% year-over-year. This broader indicator includes industry, services, construction, and selected utility activities.

Weak industrial performance contrasts with overall growth in production

Services sector output declined 0.2% from May but grew 3.0% compared to June 2025. Construction activity expanded by 2.0% month-over-month and 7.6% year-over-year. The services index was recorded at 111.9 in June, down slightly from 112.1 in May. Construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services comprised 67.2% of the broader measure, while construction contributed 8.4%.

Separate data from Statistics Sweden for June showed total industrial orders surged 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. Orders grew 29.9% from June 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders increased 56.5% on the month and 57.6% from a year earlier. Domestic orders inched up 0.1% from May but fell 7.4% year-over-year. Between January and June, total orders were 4.0% higher than in the same period of 2025, with export orders rising 6.6%.

Export orders expand while domestic orders decline annually

Transport equipment experienced the largest growth among key order categories in June. Orders in this segment jumped 101.0% from May and 118.2% from the same month last year. Manufacturing orders increased by 33.2% on a monthly basis and 31.2% annually. Capital-goods orders saw a rise of 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders declined 1.8% month-over-month and 19.0% from a year earlier.

The release of production and orders figures reflects different facets of industrial activity. The Production Value Index tracks monthly shifts in private-sector goods and services production in constant prices. Meanwhile, the orders series monitors short-term variations in new industrial orders across domestic and export markets. Updates or new data could lead to revisions of the preliminary June results. The next reports are scheduled for September 10 and will include data for July 2026.
